Get out and do something.

So lately Micah and I have been losers. We have done nothing but hang out at his house and watch Scrubs for I don't know how long. So we finally did something different. Micah has a friend from school that has connections with "the school for the deaf and blind," on Harrison. None of us were quite sure what we were going to do. I thought it was going to be a Christmas program or something, but I was wrong! It was a Christmas dance, and we were chaperones! We danced with deaf and blind kids, and it was awesome! And I also learned some sign language and new dance moves. I had so much fun. So all of that to say, it's nice to stay "in" every once and a while, but it's also nice to go out too!

my first all nighter.

So i had a big project due on Friday (dec 7) in my Interior Design class. i thought i was on top of everything but i was wrong! i took 16 credits this semester. Big mistake when those 7 classes take up all of your time. so it's the last week before finals and i am cramming to get everything finished. i'm trying not to freak out thursday night thinking about how much i still have to do before i'm finished, but once i accepted that it was going to be a long night then i was feeling a little better. i just didn't know how long that night would actually be. so heres how it went down. i was working on a drawing and rendering it (which means coloring it a special way. i have my own design lingo!) and i looked at the clock and it was 3:00!!! and i wasn't even halfway finished! so i keep working. my parents wake up. at that time i'm probably halfway, but there are still big things i have to finish, and small things that take just as much time to do. it's 7:00am and i'm still not finished! my first class is at 8:00 and i had to miss it (that's ok. i didn't really need to go anyway), because i'm not even finished. i was still rushing to get everything put together by the time i leave at 9:00. what an eventful night. that's right, i did not sleep one minute that night.
so as my day goes on i'm feeling ok. i'm not really tired. i'm a little spacey, but awake. so i had a full night, school load, work, and then babysitting that night. man! so before i actually went to bed that night, i had been awake for 39 hours!
what a day. hopefully that will never happen again.
at least i never looked like this during that entire thing.

Speak Up!

Tuesdays bible study @ Glendon's house is awesome! I love it! this is one thing i figured out last Tuesday--it's ok to be open about what God had done in your life. let me explain.
I have always viewed people who were really open about what God was doing in their lives as being a pharisee. For some reason I convinced myself that if someone wasn't a close friend of mine and they shared what God was doing, than they were being fake and putting on a show to look good. why i thought this, i have no idea. but nevertheless, i did. Because of it, i have always stopped myself from sharing and being open about God with others.
Here comes the revelation. It's not prideful to tell people how awesome God is. We should proclaim it loudly and not be ashamed or scared if people view us differently because of it. What is the point of having God in my life if I'm too scared to share it with people; even other believers. God is good, and we shouldn't be scared to say it.
that is all.

goal for this week.

so on tuesday i went to the bible study my mom has at my house because i could not go to the one on mondays that i usually attend, and i have to say it was great.
we were talking about Philippians 4 and how Paul talks about being content. this was perfect because i have been thinking about this for a while because of my english class (it's called "writing our community, writing ourselves" and we're reading a book called "the working poor" so obviously we are talking about the poor and everything that goes into that). so a question popped into my head
"how much do we really need to live...?"
we live in a society with grocery stores with 46 different kinds of chips, and books, clothing, the latest gagets...pretty much everything! and it's so hard to decided what i truly need and what i think i need.
my favorite part of bible study was the Rob Bell movie we watched. (side note: i love Rob Bell!) the movie was called "Rich" and rob talks about how God has blessed this nation and we live as if he hasn't. we think we are not rich if we drive a junkie car or have the latest, greatest thing, but most people don't even own a car and look at us saying "wow, must be great..."

here's a sneak peak of what he said...
-"how much change do you have on you?" most people live off of a dollar a day..."
-"have you eaten today?" "thousands of people die everyday from starvation."
so he is saying all of these statistics and one of them jumped out at me and pretty much bit me in the butt! here it is...
-"they say that 20 billion dollars will provide everyone in the world with food and water. that's how much American's spend in a year on ice cream."

so, contentment... it's hard, but that is my goal for this week...to live like God has blessed me and allows me to take my next breath. I know it sounds cliche to say "not take things for granted," but that's exactly what i'm saying.
think about it.
that is all.

blogger neglector!

i never thoguht i would see the day that i would become a blogger neglector, but that day has come. i feel that i must tell you why this sad day has come so here we go.
this is my day-to-day routine...
--wake up.
--go to school.
--go straight to work.
--go home.
--do homework.
--go to bed.
that is how it has been for the past 2 weeks since school and my new job started (which by the way is going great). it's been hard for me to squeeze other things in like...
--laundry. it has become a mountain!...ok, a small hill.
--cleaning my room. it looks like a tornado swept through and the aftermath is too much to bear.
--bible reading. i have a very hard time waking up to read before school. but i really need to! ah!
--breakfast! i miss breakfast. granola bars leave me...unfulfilled.
--television. this is actually a good thing, but i thought i would write it down anyway...
like i was saying, i have become a blogger neglector. it's a curse that will hopefully be lifted soon, but until then i will try to fulfill my blogging duty and keep you posted on my life!
have a great weekend. see you at potluck!
that is all.

teacher evaluation

today was my 3rd day of school and i can already tell that this semester will be hard, but great! so here are a few things i noticed from my teachers.

Prof Allred: Architectual Drafting and Design--the sad thing is i took this class last fall and didn't pass :( the other sad thing is that Prof Allred says the same things that he did last year...example "your homework is to read chapter one so that on wednesday when we discuss it you will already have a jump start." yeah i'm serious that this is the same thing he said last year...verbatim.

Prof Brower: History 1510-- ok mat wenzel, this teacher looks exactly like you. He is passionate about history, and i like his teaching style, so he's a keeper!

M. Merkley: Communicatons 2110 small groups--what can i say about Mark Merkley other than he's crazy!!! he walked into class and said "i want to challenge you!" so i'm thinking yeah, alright, this will be good. "are all people created equal?" i'm thinking "yes!" "do we have the same personalities?" "no..." "then i guess that means we're not" i'm going crazy in my mind thinking "you're crazy!" but apparently everyone else agreed with him and was "challenged" because they were nodding their heads like he was a scholar! this class will be interesting.
the best part of this class is a kid that sits in the front row named Andrew McCormick and when the teacher got to his name on the roll he said "McCormick is spelled the same way as the food brand...little pause...except they bring spice to food and i bring spice to life!" that's right, he really said that.

Prof Zweifel: Presentation Techniques--i have no idea how to say her last name, but Prof Z. teaches a 3 hour design class for my major. i've only had the class once so i really can't tell what it's going to be like.

Dr. Ramirez: English 1010--ok, so Dr. R is my favorite teacher out of the bunch mainly because she is from New York so she sounds awesome. she calls people "doll face" (the new yorker way), and she is really funny! plus i have this class with Suzy so i have someone to laugh with at Dr. R's jokes.

well, there they are. now you have to tell me about your favorite teachers! have a great week!

NO MORE FOOD!!!

I have a new job at Barlow Heating and Air Conditioning (the place that kelli works at)!!! my job title is "assistant," and i will be filing paper, doing service calls, answering phones and basically helping kelli and this other girl with things that are secondary to what they are workin on. sounds good, and i think i will be more excited when i actually start work (which is after labor day). On my way to the interview i turned too soon and got lost! I called Kelli, but she didn't answer her phone, so i called the only other person that would know how to get there...craig-the massive-massie (because he used to work there). thanks to my brother i made it to my interview in-the-nick-of-time! thanks bro! and thank you everyone for praying for me!

June Fishing Trip.

At the end of June my parents, Micah and I drove up to "Pass Lake," which is in the uintah mountains, to do some fishing. I forgot to blog about it until now, so here we go.

the first cast...

...was caught in the tree!

i have to be honest with you... swim shorts
were really nice for this part...
underwear, not so much!

this little guy broke into our backpack and
stole a little tortilla chip.

Micah and I are on a little island. it's a good
thing we had our chacos on!

my dad caught 2 fish but for the rest of the day the
fish were not takin' the bate!

there are so many lakes around the Uintah's
and some waterfalls to look at!

next we'll be seeing him going down
a waterfall in a barrel.

at the peak of the Uintah's. also
known as "The Top of the World."

I figured out why it's called "Pass Lake," because everyone "passes" it on their way to Mirror Lake! It was really pretty, not crowded, full of mosquitoes (but nothing bug spray can't fix), and the fishing wasn't that great, but it was still a lot of fun! everyone needs to go up there...so go check it out!

Glendo and Katee Wedding.

this is the story of a man named Glendon M. Bute, and his
little lady Kaytee R. Ober, and their special day...

It started at an ungodly hour of 4 am. we hit
the road and drove through Idaho and then
into Oregon!

the Columbia River. i'm pretty sure i saw Lewis
and Clark floating down the river for most of
the trip...and then I woke up!

for most of the ride Oregon looked like this,
and then...

...BAM! Oregon's green mountains and trees
pop out!

during the rehearsal Mat, Amy and I
took a walk around downtown Salem.

we saw this squirrel eating a battery. we saved it
and in return he ran away. thanks a lot!

this is the "historic chapel" that the wedding
was in. the chapel is on campus at Willamette University...
did you know that this college is the oldest university
west of the mississippi?!

we are the "utah" group!

the reception was at Orchard Heights Winery, which
overlooked the vineyard and
then as far as the eye could see!

it was a great place for a reception, and it was
the funnest reception i've been too!

the newlyweds' first dance...

...and the dip!

Glendon and his mom danced to Louise
Armstrong's "What a wonderful World,"
and Kaytee and her dad did a swing dance.

b-e-a-utiful!

obviously these two are a bit crazy from all of
the dance moves they were shakin' out on the
dance floor.

i'm not at a good angle, but they just cut
cake.

glendon put a little frosting on Kaytee's forehead
and nose...what a good guy.

mmm.cake

and to top off a great trip...a rainbow!

p.s. "Glendo and Katee" is what the sign said outside the reception area....good times.

Things that must go...

over the week i've noticed some things that must go (go = leave this world...lifestyles...etc...) here we go...

number one thing that must go that i noticed over the week---
Old Man Bushy Eyebrows! not even old man, just man bushy eyebrows! it's the eyebrows that have wild, really long pieces going in every direction. it's good on you're grandpa, but on strangers it's bad. tame the beast, look in the mirror and trim those wooly mammoths!

this isn't the best picture, but you get the idea.

things that must go #2
Personalized License Plates! i like some of them (like the christian ones...), but most of the time they are all inside jokes and the people that are actually reading them weren't there to get the
"joke."

thing that must go #3 (this happens a lot at Johnny's)
people that come through the drive thru on their cell phone!
this is what happens...
me: open drive thru door, greet costomer. "hi, how are you?"
crazy person: stay on phone while rolling down window (this time interval is plenty of time to tell the person on the phone "hold on" but don't do it). wait 5 seconds after rolling down window to say "hold on." " oh ok...oh hold on a second."
me: because the window was down when you said the first greeting, say it again now that it's down and the crazy person is off the phone. "hi, what can i get for you?"
crazy person: "two gallons of 2%" directly get back on phone before she can tell you the price of the milk...
what's even worse is when the crazy person whispers their order to you so that they don't have to say "hold on" and pause their conversation! come on people, you know you are going to talk to me when you pull into the parking lot, you have plenty of time to say "hold on."

thing that must go #4
High School Musical 1, 2, all concert tours, CD's, clothing and anything else related to that crazy movie! it wouldn't be so bad, except for the fact that it's everywhere!

it's late and i can only think of 4 things that must go right now. if you have one (and i know you do), let me hear it.
have a good weekend!

Tag you're it! (continued from Jen's blog)

here you go Jen... my sunday started out with me getting ready for church. nothing special there. So i drove to Got Coffee to meet Micah because we were riding up together, and we headeed up trappers. driving trappers is one of my favorite things to do because it is b-e-a-utiful! i love that i get to drive trappers every sunday to go to church. it helps remind me of how big God is and that he is the one that is in control of everything. i love it. moving on...i love doing kids club house! this week i had the pleasure of teaching Sadie, Avery, Marle, Paige, Sky, Wynter, Teige, and Reice. we learned about what it means to be kind to people and why God wants us to. i love the answers that young minds give when you ask them questions about God (or about anything in general!). i asked "why should we be kind to people?" and Teige said "we should be kind to people even if they are mean to us." i love teaching sunday school because they always teach me something. after church Micah and i went to the coffee shop. i messed around on my computer while he fried his brains trying to understand math. after that we headed over to Glen-dawgs house for a BBQ. yum. after that Glendon, Amy, Pete, Jesse, Jeremy, Stacy, Micah, Ben, Holly and I rode our bikes to Weber State to see the fireworks. ok, so friday i visited the Matt's bike shop and picked me up a sweet Massi overspeed mountain bike. it's frame is blue and yellow and the fork is red! it's sweet! i was so excited to ride it to Weber, and we had a blast! we should ride our bikes every year because you don't have to find a parking spot for them, or wait in a line to get out of the parking lot! what a good idea! so we get to Weber and find the best spot ever! and then the magic starts...fireworks! fireworks are one of my favorite things. Micah discovered a new trick that will supposedly increase the enjoyment of watching fireworks...go cross-eyed and then it's like seeing 2 firework shows at once! that would be cool except for the fact that your head really hurts afterwards, and i kept telling him that his face is going to get stuck like that if he keeps doing it, so i guess Micah will be the only one using that method...
so overall it was a GREAT sunday!
let's keep the game going...Tag you're it! how was your monday?
